Anti-Poaching Support

OBJECTIVE

Burkina Faso - Cross-Border Poaching

Cusp Technologies played a large role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of communication of rangers in Burkina Faso in the midst of cross-border poaching and confrontations with jihadists.

SOLUTION

Cusp Technologies played a large role in enhancing communication, management and security through use of VHF radio, Iridium PTT system and Garmin InReach technology in Burkina Faso.

Cusp Technologies, in collaboration with its partners, intervened by implementing a robust VHF radio system (Kenwood) covering 60% of the area. Two-way radio communication stands as the most potent tool for uniting teams, ensuring that assistance is always within reach at the push of a button. This capability is particularly crucial during emergencies, where quick access to aid, site lockdowns, or the safe evacuation of people and animals must be coordinated swiftly and efficiently.

The adoption of Iridium PTT has significantly enhanced the management of natural resources and streamlined coordination efforts in anti-poaching initiatives within the region. Rangers rely on their radios in the same challenging environments they operate in. Hence, it's imperative that the radio devices and supporting systems function seamlessly, especially during critical situations where mobile phone coverage or IP connectivity may be unavailable. To fortify extensive patrols, Cusp Technologies and its partners have enabled Les Anges Gardiens de la Nature (AGN) to utilise Garmin InReach technology, allowing live tracking and bidirectional messaging capabilities in the field, enhancing operational efficiency and response agility.
